For my final compositions, I have settled for an Instagram page and a newsletter. I have decided to do an Instagram page because I know that this social media platform is popularly known for sharing pictures and connecting via text with friends. Teenagers who are frequently texting their peers are more likely to see information regarding my topic question on a social media page rather than a website or brochure. In the social media post, I shared a picture from the viral meme and story where a professor kept track of new generation slang and terms on a list. Most teenagers are familiar with this meme so they might feel inclined to read the post. If the target audience were to click on the Instagram page, it would take them to the bio and rest of the posts regarding teenage texting and reduced literacy. This composition is different from other works of the same genre because it must include trendy posts that are included with informative captions. For the second composition, I have decided to do a newsletter. I chose this genre because I knew an informative news source whether it was online, or broadcast would gain the attention of my target audience. Sharing information involving the academic ability of teenagers declining due to texting seemed like a headline that any parent or teacher would be drawn to. I determined that parents and teachers would be the audience because these teenagers have parents who may be concerned about their literacy and writing skills in school while teachers are witnessing this gradual decline in writing. This composition is set apart from other works of the same genre because it seems like a topic that could apply to everyone. It’s well established that technology is integrated into our lives so reporting studies that show literacy decline due to texting is attention-grabbing for anyone.
