Over the course of my first English college class, I have been introduced to course learning objectives that have shifted and improved my style of writing. These outcomes have been impactful to my writing as I have practiced implementing these writing techniques through drafting and revising for different purposes and audiences. Outcomes like exploring diverse genres and rhetorical situations, locating research sources through library databases to determine their credibility and biases, and recognizing rhetorical terms and situations when engaged in writing situations have been meaningful to my work. By exploring various genres and rhetorical situations, I was able to determine how an author will write in a certain manner to meet the genre criteria and fulfill the context for a rhetorical situation. In my source-based essay, “Climate Changes’ Worsening Effects”, I was successful in assessing the rhetorical situations and contents of multiple sources. When researching a source for my source-based essay, I was introduced to a library database that allowed me to thoroughly search for specific genres and topics like academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles. My work cited pages should depict my clear understanding of utilizing research sources from the library database. In my inquiry-based essay, I use multiple sources to support my topic points in which I have recognized the rhetorical terms and situations in my writing situation. Overall, my writing style has greatly benefited from the understanding of these course outcomes and will likely remain through my writing for future classes.
